On November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The defeat provoked a groundswell of initiative within the GLBT community.

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by the prop8 and with the words “NOH8” painted on their cheeks in protest.

Nearly two years since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 5,500 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate expanding its reach. The campaign that began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and now Second Life community is also joining. A humble effort to strengthen the voices and fight for the rights of those who are victims of mere prejudice.

  1. You all have been amazing in your support for the NOH8 Photo Campaign in Second Life. In the last week, I have had the amazing opportunity of shooting over 100 avatars throughout SL and receiving dozens of IM’s each day. I will continue this effort in support of the campaign in conjunction with my studio, CreativEdge Studios. Wicca, Arisia, Tandra, you all are amazing ladies! Keep up the great work in leading by example and showing what it truly means to be a model within Second Life!
