Post Apocalyptic – What is that?

As promised, I will today talk a little bit about post apocalyptic styles in comparison to cyber/cyberpunk, which I wrote about in one of my last posts (http://wiccamerlin.de/cyberpunk-what-is-that/).

Maybe lets start again with a general description from Wikipedia and then go from there ๐Ÿ˜‰

Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction is a subgenre of science fiction, science fantasy or horror fiction literature in which the Earth’s technological civilization is collapsing or has collapsed. The apocalypse event may be climatic, such as runaway climate change; natural, such as an impact event; man-made, such as nuclear warfare or resource depletion; medical, such as a Pandemic, whether natural or man-made; or imaginative, such as a zombie apocalypse, cybernetic revolt, technological singularity, dysgenics, or alien invasion. The story may involve attempts to prevent an apocalypse event, deal with the impact and consequences of the event itself, or it may be post-apocalyptic, set after the event. The time frame may be immediately after the catastrophe, focusing on the travails or psychology of survivors, the way to maintain the human race alive and together as one, or considerably later, often including the theme that the existence of pre-catastrophe civilization has been forgotten (or mythologized). Post-apocalyptic stories often take place in a non-technological future world, or a world where only scattered elements of society and technology remain.

[Wikipedia]

Post apocalyptic is the time after an apocalypse, that means the world like we know it is gone and we have to live from all that is left over. Most likely electricity is not working in general.. maybe via a few generators that are left as long as we have the fuel to run them. Water might be rare, so the everyday shower probably has o be skipped as well ๐Ÿ˜‰

It probably is a martial, warlike environment, where all just try to survive – anyways how.

Let’s think about what you could wear then or what kind of fashion would be most certain…

I would say makeups will be a rare case, maybe we can use coal or clay, maybe even some berries or fruit that survived, to bring color on our faces. I do not see that very colorful or even neon looking.

For the clothing, when we looted all existing warehouses and clothing stores, we most likely have to wear what we can find, or what we can create out of that. Maybe that’s why I love that genre so much as it is very simple but as well can be very creative in terms of fashion and creating outfits.

Because of the fact, that I really do love post apocalyptic clothing and environment, I really was happy when I heard that there will be an event exactly for that. From the 18th to the 27th of August, the Thereafter event is taking place.

A full sim created in a post apocalyptic style, with many amazing designers who designed fashion, furniture, ambience, poses or landscaping items for exact that futuristic imagination.

Thereafter has a tight schedule of many events. Dj’s, live musicians and a cool fashion theatre are taking place! Event Schedule: https://thereaftersl.wordpress.com/event-schedule/

The outfits and props for my todays post are all from the event and as well the pictures are taken there. Don’t you love it when you can go shopping and as well take amazing pictures or walk around in the perfect environment for the event?

For my first post I chose the “Bena” dress with the amazing belt and scarf. The dress comes in many different colors and together with the 2 amazing accessories it just looks totally amazing, even if you can wear the dress without those as well.

From Boom I used the super cool shoulder plates, that are made of car plates – I just love such neat little details!

Last but not least I am wearing the event exclusive from ~isil~, the extraordinary mask of the “Survival Mask & Helmet” design. You can choose to wear only the mask or the helmet with the HUD that comes with it and as well lets you retexture the whole item to many different colors – even the little light in the mask you can colorchange.

For the rest of the look I am wearing many parts of DeathRowDesign, that are as well the creators of the amazing building in the background of the pictures. The “Sewer Shelter” is a wonderful collection with all kind of fantastic furniture and as well a built that you can use as your perfect post apocalyptic hideout ๐Ÿ˜‰

Over the next few days I will have a few more exciting news from the event, as it became an addiction to make pictures on the Thereafter sim ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you like this kid of style as much as I do, or if you are just curious and want a kick ass experience, even if you just love making snaps in cool scenarios – you should NOT miss out on the Thereafter event!

Diversity in Black and White for SL Fierce

Dark Beauty for SL Fierce Magazine (https://issuu.com/slfiercemagazine/docs/fierce-feb17_final)

I love working for magazines and not too long ago the newest issue of SL Fierce was released.

SL Fierce, February 2017

SL Fierce is something special to me, as they (aka mainly Steele Sirnah, as SL Fierce is kinda his baby ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) always come up with amazing themes and as well with challenging styling requests, but you always have to use your own inventory and have kinda free reign of what you are doing without any given items or rules.

Certainly it is fun too if you get things from amazing designers, but it is a totally different workflow for me then. When you get a design, then you try to highlight it in your look. You want to promote the designer that gave you the item and with the focus on that you built a style around that. I would not choose one over the other as I like both and each is a totally different challenge than the other ๐Ÿ˜‰

This time SL Fierce was going for ‘Dark & Light Feathers’ as well as for ‘Dark Beauty’. When I was told, who I may shoot with, I totally was looking forward to the shoots, as I always feel an invisible band between me and her and she seems to think so much alike and always feels and gets my weirdness :p

I am talking about WrenNoir Cerise, one of the most creative and skilled artists I met in SL, when it comes to 2D art and as well a wonderful and kind lady.

Light Feathers for SL Fierce Magazine (https://issuu.com/slfiercemagazine/docs/fierce-feb17_final)

Working with Wren always means huge fun and as well amazing pictures ๐Ÿ™‚ She loves to experiment and while she does her set ups or looks for the right poses she is even getting more into her creative universe.

The first look of the 3 I started with, was the Light Feathers, since I thought that might take me the longest to style since white is not my total comport zone ๐Ÿ˜‰

First I thought about an angel, but what ever I tried it looked weird to me and so I decided to try something different. Something more fantasy and satyr or faun looking. I always loved the “Wisdom Angel Wings” from Astralia so much and now I got the chance to try something with them ๐Ÿ™‚ The rest kinda fell in place very smooth ๐Ÿ˜‰

For the Dark Beauty, I wanted a strong, dark diva look :p And with the outfit from Pixicat combined with the stole of *agp* it was easy to achieve that.

The Dark Feathers, that was the one I felt most comfortable with… that was my personal playground*giggles* I love to mis and match so I used a lot of different feather attachments for this look.

It is amazing to see how so many different outfit parts that do not really belong to ech other on the first view, can become a new outfit.

Thank you SL Fierce, especially Steele & thank you Wren for another amazing challenge and time working on those looks and having the photo shoots!

Taylor Wassep, founder and creative head behind the THEMA Magazine had a brilliant idea, which I totally fell in love with.

(Click HERE to find the latest issue of THEMA magzine)

For his latest issue of THEMA, he had the idea to use one ofย  Shakespeare’s works and then interpretate it in a Tim Burton inspired way.

You can imagine how straight that went to my heart with my Tim Burton addiction…

So for my pictures I chose Hamlet. Since I wanted to bring the head of Jack Skellington into my pics, becasue I totally love that character, it seemed the perfect match ๐Ÿ˜‰

Even more happy I was when Taylor asked me if I would like to be the cover girl for this special issue and if I could style another look. Together with Tempest Rosca who took the picture, we decided to give a try on Lady McBeth ๐Ÿ˜‰ The outcome you can see on the very last picture of this post.

I hope you can see the fun I had with those special pictures and how dear they became to me.

Thank you again Taylor for such an amazing theme for the THEMA Magazine and that I again was allwed to be part <3

The mastermind behind some of the most iconic art styling and modern filmmaking – Tim Burton, magically crafts story line thought the guise of whimsical fantasy mixed with overtones of dark elements. The result being a masterful experience that only Tim Burton can create. Likewise, William Shakespeare is thought of to be the greatest English writer in all of history. He too, created works of art that cast it’s character in to dark turmoil and suffering. For the enjoyment of it’s audience and unknowing the modern world. Combining these two creative geniuses pays homage to their brilliance in both writing and style. Please enjoy, Shakesburton

The Wood Fairy – A Fairytale…

Zibska 2

A while ago I found a wonderful fairytale on the www and it was stuck in my mind so bad that I really had to style something around it. It is not meant to kinda tell the story but it was heavily inspired by it ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Fairytale is one of the favourite ones from Czechoslovakia and was told in London round about 1966 if my research was correct ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am an addicted to old fairy tales myself and read a lot of them – maybe it is the child inside of me that always refused to fully grow up ๐Ÿ˜‰

So I am not claiming that novel for myself, but I would like to share it with you.

Zibska 1

The Wood Fairy

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Betushka. She lived with her mother, a poor widow who had only a tumbledown cottage and two goats. But in spite of this poverty, Betushka was always merry.

From spring to autumn, Betushka drove the goats each day to pasture in a birch wood. Every morning her mother put a slice of bread and an empty spindle into her bag. The spindle would hold the flaxen thread she would spin while she watched the goats. She was too poor to own a distaff on which to wind the flax, so she wound it around her head, to carry it thus to the wood.

“Work hard, Betushka,” her mother always said, “and fill the spindle before you return home.”

Off skipped Betushka, singing along the way. She danced behind the goats into the wood of birch trees and sat down under a tree. With her left hand she pulled fibers from the flax around her head and with her right hand twirled her spindle so that it hummed over the ground. All the time she sang merrily and the goats nibbled the green grass among the trees.

When the sun showed that it was midday, Betushka stopped her spinning. She gave each of the goats a morsel of bread and picked a few strawberries to eat with what remained. After this, she sprang up and danced. The sun shone even more warmly and the birds sang yet more sweetly.

After her dance, Betushka began again to spin busily. At evening when she drove the goats home she was able to hand her mother a spindle full of flaxen thread.

Zibska 7

One fine spring day, when Betushka was ready as usual to dance, suddenly there appeared before her a most beautiful maiden. Her white dress floated about her as thin as gossamer, her golden hair flowed to her waist, and a wreath of forest blossoms crowned her head. Betushka was struck silent.

The wood fairy smiled at her and in a sweet voice asked, “Betushka, do you like to dance?”

At this, Betushka lost her fear. “Oh! I could dance all the day long!”

“Come then, let us dance together. I will teach you.” She took Betushka and began to dance with her.

Round and round they circled, while sweet music sounded over their heads. The maiden had called upon the birds sitting in the birch trees to accompany them. Nightingales, larks, goldfinches, thrushes, and a clever mockingbird sang such sweet melodies that Betushka’s heart filled with delight. She quite forgot her goats and her spinning. On and on she danced, with feet never weary, until evening when the last rosy rays of sunset were disappearing. The music ceased and the maiden vanished as suddenly as she had come.

Betushka looked around. There was her spindle — only half filled with thread. Sadly she put it into her bag and drove the goats from the wood. She did not sing while going down the road this time, but reproached herself for forgetting her duty. She resolved that she would not do this again. When she reached home she was so quiet that her mother asked if she were ill.

Zibska 3

“No, Mother, I am not ill.” But she did not tell her mother about the lovely maiden. She hid the half-filled spindle, promising herself to work twice as hard tomorrow to make up for today.

Early the next morning Betushka again drove the goats to pasture, singing merrily as usual. She entered the wood and began her spinning, intending to do twice her usual amount.

At noon Betushka picked a few strawberries, but she did not dance. To her goats she said, “Today, I dare not dance. Why don’t you dance, my little goats?”

“Come and dance with me,” called a voice. It was the beautiful maiden.

But this time Betushka was afraid, and she was also ashamed. She asked the maiden to leave her alone. “Before sunset, I must finish my spinning,” she said.

The maiden answered, “If you will dance with me, someone will help you finish your spinning.” With the birds singing beautifully as before, Betushka could not resist. She and the maiden began to dance, and again they danced till evening.

Zibska 5

Now when Betushka looked at her nearly empty spindle, she burst into tears. But the maiden unwound the flax from Betushka’s head, twined it around a slender birch tree, seized the spindle, and began to spin. The spindle hummed over the ground and grew thick with thread. By the time the sun had dropped from sight, all the flax was spun. As the maiden handed the full spindle to Betushka, she said, “Wind it and grumble not. Remember, wind it and grumble not.” Then, suddenly, she disappeared.

Betushka, happy now, drove the goats home, singing as she went, and gave her mother the full spindle. Betushka’s mother, however, was not pleased with what Betushka had failed to do the day before and asked her about it. Betushka told her that she had danced, but she kept the maiden a secret.

The next day Betushka went still earlier to the birch wood. The goats grazed while she sang and spun, until at noon the beautiful maiden appeared and again seized Betushka by the waist to dance. While the birds sang for them, the two danced on and on, Betushka quite forgetting her spindle and the goats.

When the sun was setting, Betushka looked around. There was the half-filled spindle! But the maiden grasped Betushka’s bag, became invisible for a moment, then handed back the bag stuffed with something light. She ordered her not to look into it before reaching home, and with these words she disappeared.

Betushka started home, not daring to look into the bag. But halfway there she was unable to resist peeking, for the bag was so light she feared a trick. She looked into the bag, and began to weep. It was full of dry birch leaves! Angrily she tossed some of these out of the bag, but suddenly she stopped — she knew they would make good litter for the goats to sleep on.

Zibska 6

Now she was almost afraid to go home. There her mother was awaiting her. “What kind of spindle did you bring me yesterday?” she asked. “I wound and wound, but the spindle remained full. ‘Some evil spirit has spun you,’ I grumbled, and at that instant the thread vanished from the spindle. Tell me what this means.”

Betushka then told her mother about the maiden and their dancing. “That was a wood fairy,” exclaimed her mother, alarmed. “The wood fairies dance at midday and at midnight. If you had been a little boy, you might not have escaped alive. But to little girls, the wood fairies often give rich presents.” Next, she added. “To think that you did not tell me. If I had not grumbled I might have had a room full of thread.”

Betushka then thought of her bag and wondered if there might not, after all, be something under those leaves. She lifted out the spindle and the unspun flax. “Look, Mother!” Her mother looked and clapped her hands. Under the spindle the birch leaves had turned to gold!

Betushka told her mother how the fairy had directed her not to look into the bag until she got home, but that she had not obeyed and had thrown out some of the leaves. “Tis fortunate you did not empty out the whole bagful,” said her mother.

The next morning Betushka and her mother went into the wood, to look carefully over the ground where Betushka had thrown out the dry leaves. Only fresh birch leaves lay there, but the gold that Betushka did bring home was enough for a farm with a garden and some cows. She wore beautiful dresses and no longer had to graze the goats. Nothing, however, gave her such delight as she had dancing with the wood fairy. Often she ran to the birch wood, hoping to see the beautiful maiden, but never again did the wood fairy appear.

Winter Dreams

Snow Art 1a

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

[Bing Crosby]

Snow Art 3a

Dreaming of a white Christmas… yes .. exactly that was what I was doing for the past days. I still did hope that at least a few snowflakes would show up for Christmas but… sadly not even a single one…

So I had to play with snow for the pictures ๐Ÿ˜‰

First I wanted to dress up all in white, sometimes I like it when I can blend myself into the scenery or background as to me that usually makes it most dreamy and interesting.

I started with the “New Age” pants in white, I always liked those pants and the special shape of them. Then I added the “Orion” collar from [sys]. The collar covers the chest barley and if you move it shows more than I like ๐Ÿ˜‰ So I had to search for something that I could use as a base to not distract too much but as well cover my body at least a little bit. I used the layer of the “Mummy Bride” of Ezura Xue. Just a few bandages around my chest and waist ๐Ÿ˜‰

The shoes are from Wicca’s Wardrobe. The “Shenna” heels in white of the ‘Chic Edition’ pack. I already had a funky touch so I went for the amazing horns from Death Row Designs. The cool knee patches are part of an [sys] outfit called “Alcane”

Now I had to find a place with snow and after trying a lot of different sims which are just Christmas themed I found this wonderful little place. A wonderful landscape with a natural and realistic looking ambience. Sadly I forgot to LM the place and after hopping around so much I forgot how it was called *grumbles* But I will try to find it again and update the post then ๐Ÿ˜‰

*UPDATE: Found the place again and it is called “Let it Snow”

I hope you all will have some wonderful, relaxed and peaceful days with the ones you love.

Merry Christmas!

Avantasia for THEMA Magazine

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 002

Avantasia

(some when in the future round about the year 2525 maybe….)

Be aware of the life on Avantasia before you venture into this world in the climax of war and anarchy, their enemies, the sirens of Venus who else.ย  The Avantasians are a complex race but by no means should they be underestimated, from their flexibility to the swifness of their long sharp talons, their catlike movements ooze in deadly elegance and subtle seduction as they prowl their world in search for the ultimate in style to seduce their next victim…I mean mate.

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 005

Sometimes you just need 2 to 3 pictures and you end up with 9 and cannot decide which ones to use. That happened to me when I made my pictures for the actual THEMA Magazine (http://issuu.com/themapublications/docs/thema_terraefirma)

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 003

The theme was Terrae Firma, and we was asked to create pictures about a new race of the existing planets or a new planet. When Tayler told me, I was immediately sure I wanted to create a new planet with a new race.

I wanted to do something still fashion related and human but to the same time, futuristic and apocalyptic. I love apocalyptic movies and art and so I watchedย  a few of my favourite movies while I was styling.

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 010

The first piece that came to my mind was the “Lucian Hat Nox” hat from Machoire. An incredible headpiece made of so many filigree parts and textured with such a great feeling for materials.

This amazing art piece is available in different colors, wich you all can see at the Machoire main store or at their website (http://machoire.blogspot.fr/)

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 007

Now I had to find something what kinda showed evolution for the future but still has a human aspect for the whole look.

The head-piece gave a rough idea for the general colors, back and some kind of metal should be the basic.

So started with a super old but still amazing top from Muhi. One of the brands I really miss in SL as they always were up to date and very fashion forward.

I know some people are against wearing old stuff and tell always to delete older things, but I am going more with my belly feeling and keep old things which I really like to combine them with new things. That sometimes can make a look very unique, as long as you keep the general style up to date and modern. Certainly some things are outdated some when, like the super old skins or hair, wich automatically let you look like 2007 :p , but for some clothing pieces and accessories that might not be the case ๐Ÿ˜‰ . As well I would say there is a difference in wearing old things for a picture or on the runway as some of the older things just react weird with movement, especially if they have huge static prims or sculpties, wich can look better with a nowadays mesh prim that actually moves with your properly.

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 004

To add a modern touch I put on my “Lavinia Leggins” in anthracite, which I made for my store Wicca’s Wardrobe. With the leathern garter belt over the leggings – one piece to wear – it got a strong and powerful look but as well some sexy attitude.

To finish the basic human look I added hells from Death Row Designs with some heavy chains and a huge plateau heel.

Now the challenge started to develop the human race forward to fit in the futuristic and apocalyptic environment, that I had in my mind for the new planet and race.

The first idea was the “Demonhands” from Death Row Designs. The sharp claws are important to fight and survive on the new planets face.

THEMA Magazine - Avantasia 006

I so many apocalyptic movies females wear corsets in some style and this made me add one corset of Trilobite over the “Asymetrical Bodysuit” from Muhi. And what should not miss? Some weapon looking accessories. Those I found as well at Death Row Designs.. I bet you can tell I love this store really a lot ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

ย The finish was the “Centipede” spine attachment, that comes with a wonderful tattoo layer. The tattoo makes the spine look like, as it would grow out directly off your back.

All the poses used in this post are from Del May, one of my favourite pose makers beside PosESioN or Corpus to just name a few.

And like I said in the beginning, It was so hard to decide between all the pictures I made, that this post is a little bit picture heavy ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would like to thank Taylor Wassep for this amazing opportunity and the great inspiration of her theme. The THEMA Magazine is for me really kinda an art exhibition with amazing stylists and photographers and I am feeling very honored that I was allowed to be part again ๐Ÿ™‚

So many times, have said goodbye
And when the spirits called out his name
To join forever, forever to stay
A forest spirit he became

Ancient spirits of the forest
Made him king of elves and trees
He was the only human being
Who lived in harmony
In perfect harmony

Styling around a sideboard?

Gothic Lolita 001

Styling around a sideboard or a sideboard as styling accessory?

Yes you read right ;). This time, I wanted to showcase the new “Sophia Sideboard” from Leezu, that wou will find at the Arcade gacha event. The “Sophia Sideboard” is available in 8 different colors and texturesย  in the closed version like we have it on the pictures. The 2 rares are a dark and white sideboard with open compartments and some clothing hanging out, very cute.

So since I call my blog mainly a fashion blog I usually combine furniture, plants and whatever with some stylings ;).

For today I had a rose tinted sideboard so I wanted to find something matching ;).

As all of you know probably about my pink allergy, I decided to have just a little bit of pink for my look ๐Ÿ˜‰ . Ok.. even maybe more because I wanted to let the sideboard shine and pop out a little more but the first reason sounded better :p .

I am an addicted to the creations of Mila Tatham, so I looked through my SoliDea FoliEs folder until I found the “Caoimhe” dress. This stunning and lovely blackย  white dress with its pink petals just was what I had in mind. To break the lovely and playfull look, I decided to go heavy on the makeup.

It was kinda fate when Malicia Paython, owner and designer of Silken Moon, showed me one of her releases for the skin fair. It starts tomorrow, the 15th of march, and there you will find the “Go Faster Nun”. The “Go Faster Nun” has different options to wear it. You can wear it as a full with the upperbody connected toย  the face in black or you only can wear the facepart. The black mask covers the lower face from the nose down and has a black stripe up between the eyes. To make sure the full versions can be worn with the various avatar enhancements, Silken moon as well offers a Slink applier for the hands and a Lola’s Bra applier for the mesh boobies, if you like to wear them. To add back some sweet and nice I added the “Cherry Blossom” makeup with it’s sweet veins and pink flowers under the left eye.

To add a bit more roughness I wanted to wear the “stp boots” from Death Row Design. I got them longer time ago and never found the right styling to add them. With the black & white striped lower leg it was the perfect addition to the “Caoimhe” dress from SoliDea FoliEs.

To make the look complete I used the “Kat” hair, made by EMO-tions. This special hair style was made for the Kattaca Challenge ofย  the MVW 2014 for one of the contestants. This wild and extraordianry hairstyle comes with a wonderful painter accessory that you can add if you like. For this post I skipped it as the colors did not match my idea of the black & white with some pink ๐Ÿ˜‰
