Punk’s not Dead!

Look 1

Punk fashion is the clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewellery, and body modifications of the punk subculture. Punk fashion varies widely, ranging from Vivienne Westwood designs to styles modeled on bands like The Exploited to the dressed-down look of North American hardcore. The distinct social dress of other subcultures and art movements, including glam rock, skinheads, rude boys, greasers, and mods have influenced punk fashion. Punk fashion has likewise influenced the styles of these groups, as well as those of popular culture. Many punks use clothing as a way of making a statement.

Punk fashion has been extremely commercialized at various times, and many well-established fashion designers – such as Anna Sui, Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier – have used punk elements in their production. Punk clothing, which was initially handmade, became mass-produced and sold in record stores and some smaller specialty clothing stores by the 1980s. Many fashion magazines and other glamour-oriented media have featured classic punk hairstyles and punk-influenced clothing.

There is a wide range of punk fashion, in terms of clothing (including deliberately offensive T-shirts, leather jackets, Doc Marten boots, etc.), hairstyles (including brightly colored hair, spiked hair, mohawks, etc.), cosmetics, tattoos, jewelery and body modification. Early punk fashion adapted everyday objects for aesthetic effect, such as T-shirts, leather jackets (which are often decorated with painted band logos, pins and buttons, and metal studs or spikes), and footwear such as Converse sneakers, skate shoes, brothel creepers, or Dr. Martens boots. Hardcore punk fans adopted a dressed-down style of T-shirts, jeans, combat boots or sneakers and crewcut-style haircuts. Women in the hardcore scene typically wore masculine clothing.

One part of punk was creating explicitly outward identities of sexuality. Everything that was normally supposed to be hidden was brought to the front, both literally and figuratively.

When Shena gave me my trend for the last issue of the VERSUS Magazine, my heart jumped – Punk!!!

(Read the full Magazine HERE)

Being a punk myself and expressing that during my youth with cool and ‘weird’ clothing and all kind of colorful hair and crazy cuts, that was right along my alley. Certainly SL gives you even some more freedom to be crazy but in general punk is a certain lifestyle and even if you become more calm with your looks when you get older, the attitude will never completely vanish I guess – at least it never did for me.

But what does punk mean for the most of the people? For many it might only be a fashion trend but for some it goes way deeper and becomes a life philosophy.

Punk or Punkrock was born in the mid 70s in the UK. From there it started to grow over the USA and Germany and finally was known worldwide. It was kinda an offspring of the Glamrock and the opposite to the quixotic Progressive Rock. Later, genres like New Wave, independent and Post-Punk developed from it.

In the 70s, big bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd became unreachable and evicted from their audiences while the economy in the UK went more and more down. Many teenagers could not find work after school and there was no social care system to take care of them so they ended up on the streets. They developed hate against the system and the slogan “No Future” became their life motto.

They started to dress up shabby and their hair turned into colorful weird and funky art pieces as a provocation against the system and society and to shock their parents and grandparents.

Punk politics cover the entire political spectrum. Mostly they are concerned with individual freedom and anti-establishment views. They as well include anti-authoritarianism and non-conformity.

To break it down, Punk for the most people is some kind of revolution, provocation and rebellion against the mainstream or the actual situation and society they life in. They want to make a statement with their looks and get attention for their views, interests and desires.

Look 3

To me it was the music first, that brought me to the punk genre. When I was younger, round about 14, my older cousin heard all kind of punk rock music from the Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, NOFX , Slime and some German ones. Influenced by that I started early changing my clothes towards my ‘idols’ and with 15 I was allowed to dye my hair. I remember very well my first red and blue streaks πŸ˜‰ The more I did it the more my mom allowed me to ‘play’ with my hair and side – or under cuts were not far away :p

With growing up I started to understand the philosophy of punk and the more I did know the more I felt that is my genre. I never was a mainstream person and being called a freak or an ‘outsider’ because of my hair and looks, it was easy to turn more and more into being a punk and rebel. I really felt good to not look like anyone else and to provocate with my opinions and views about things. I never took anything as a given and questioned nearly everything what I was told. On one side it gave me a lot of knowledge about certain things but on the other side, it was hard to find friends especially in school. Outside of school it was never a problem, but the people in my class were all kids of doctors, lawyers and high society people. Probably that was the reason why I was getting in to the music scene very early and a long time I was the youngest. that had some advantages as well πŸ˜‰ I finished my school and as well studied, to become a teacher myself but right after exams, I had the great opportunity to get a record label contract with one of my bands. I did not continue with becoming a teacher and decided to live a musicians life for over 20 years, before I went back to the roots and to teaching at a school πŸ˜‰ I might have grown out of the uber shabby looks and the ultra colored hair, but there is a little punk, a sweet rebel still inside of me and that probably will never change. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed the styling for my VERSUS Magazine trends so much as they brought back good old times and memories πŸ˜‰

Girls just wanna have fun!

I come home, in the morning light
My mother says “When you gonna live your life right?”
Oh momma dear, we’re not the fortunate ones
And girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have fun…

[Cyndi Lauper]

Exactly that is what todays post is about… I wanted to have fun πŸ˜‰

When I put on the “Callie” outfit from Gizza I did instantly know, that I want to do a fun picture with it. In Germany we have a warm weather come back these days with lots of sun. Temperature climbed up as well and so I was in a sunny late summer mood when I styled my look.

I am not a girly style person usually, but today I just got me and I added some more pink and color to the “Callie” ensemble. The amazing “Kam” eye shadow from Slackgirl encouraged me even more for that πŸ˜‰

For the nails I certainly had to go over the top as well and used the fantastic “Signal Stiletto” bento nails for Maitreya, as well made by Slackgirl. Teal and pink – normally I only use that combination for cyber looks with lots of black *giggles*

The amazing bento rings with the huge gems are made by MEVA and I am totally in love with them. For modern statement jewelry the “Victorian Bento Rings” are just perfect with their huge color HUD and you can even hide some of the rings if you like.

Typically for me, if I wear tattoos, I mostly wear black & grey ones, but the “Anchored Love” arm tattoo with its bold colorful design, just matched the look so perfect, I could not resist πŸ˜‰

Like I said before.. today was only enjoying some free time and so I just went to Anduril for some snaps and enjoyed playing with windlights. Sometimes you have no reason, no special blogging duty and no idea what the outcome will be and just have fun!

The more I try… the more I love!

BENTO… the more I try.. the more I love :p

Certainly we have BENTO now for quite some time but the more I look into, I find more and more possibilities and options. I was resisting to get BENTO hands as I did not like the shape of most of them too much and always counted on Slink or Maitreya to come up with their bento hands and I was not disappointed πŸ™‚

We even got both as free updates for the hands we already owned!

The waiting was worth it and paired with the BENTO enabled AOs and animations or poses, it already was a wonderful experience. But when I found a special hands animator to even modify exiting poses for pictures slightly… that finally got me!

I did not yet make up my mind if I wanna use mainly my Maitreya of my Slink hands, so I just change back and forth depending on the accessories I want to wear for each new look.

When I saw the “Hand Poser HUD” from FATE, I did know instantly – I want that! To have control not only using premade poses but being able to adjust poses to make them even better fit for certain purposes – PRICELESS!

I am still in love with my LeLutka Simone head and with all the new face expressions there is so much to play with πŸ˜‰ Especially the tongue ones I enjoy a lot lately, but as well several photo emotions are available now for a real cool price. They are so easy to install with the injector, which even looks funny with the syringe that appears when you add the injector and load the emotions into your LeLutka head HUD.

With all my BENTO cheering, I do not want to forget about my todays style πŸ˜‰

It was one of the looks, I put together for one of my GizzA shifts. When I got the “Rodeo Shirt” and the “Grace” mini skirt, I immediately had the imagination of a modern ‘Cowgirl’ looking style.

Giz and Auster are amazing creative designers and over all the time they really became close and dear freinds to me πŸ™‚ Thank you Giz and Auster for all your trust and support!

With the amazing “Indio” boots from Reign –Β  which as well matched perfectly in colors – I already had the right touch . The suede fabric and the laces on the outsides just made the perfect look. For the necklace I decided to go with a wrapped whip – you never know when a cowgirl will need one :p

LOTD 08/05/2016 – Yesterday @ GizzA

GizzA 04

Yesterday when I dressed up for my GizzA shift I found myself in a light elegant mood. That for I tried one of the latest releases from GizzA called “Adrianna”. “Adrianna” is a wonderful ensemble of a jacket with a deep neckline and a wonderful short leather skirt. The outfit is available for standard avatars as well as for Slink Physique/Hourglass and Maitreya Lara mesh bodies.

Since GizzA recently started to make appliers for mesh bodies, I could not resist to use the new “Fleur Lace Top” under the “Adrianna” outfit. I made a wonderful addition to the rest of the look πŸ™‚ The “Fleur Lace Top” comes with four appliers (Slink, Belleza, Maitreya & Omega) so you should be able to wear it with all the popular mesh bodies out there. What really caught my attention, the lines are very sharp and crisp and so you could see all the love for the details, Giz put into that wonderful new release. To complete the outfit I put sheer tights from Izzie’s and the wonderful “MeiMei” set made by Meva for the past round of On9, but I am sure you will find it at her main store now πŸ˜‰

GizzA 01

For the pictures I again found my way to one of the Neva sims. This time it was Saint Pete City. A wonderful designed little city with so many details that I still find some every time I go back there πŸ˜‰ For these picture series, I walked to the more outsides where you can see the seaside from those lovely benches. That would be as well a wonderful place just to relax and chat and enjoy the waves and birds I guess πŸ˜‰

Play the Trumpet?

Today I am very happy to showcase another amazing design of Faster Pussycat, one of my favourite designers and a great friend of mine as well.

This time it will be the “Trumpet Jacket & Pants”

I always loved the designs of Faster Pussycat, as they are so amazing out of the box. Honey Bender, owner and Designer for Faster Pussycat, together with PoosyKat LittleBoots do both have a very special taste for fabrics and color, which I love a lot.

This time it is a neat combination of blue and gold with some amazing patterns on the pants and parts of the jacket. The texture and the shape or the jacket remind me of a past time uniform type – or those 19th century music corps style – and together with the modern pants hold by a simple rope that is put through huge framed holes, it makes a great contrast.

The neat accessories come from LeEnfant Terrible. She has such an amazing quality on her items and they are all so detailed that they were the perfect addition on the amazing detailed “Trumpet” outfit.

since the outfit had a more masculine feeling to it, I again wanted to go with a contrast on the hair style. I chose the “Jaily” style from EMO-tions. With the puffy curls and the loosely wisps, together with the amazing rose attachment it looked perfect for the idea I wanted to go for. The rose attachment brought me on the “Shippoa” choker from Mandala for the necklace.

For the makeup I again did a mix and match of Nuuna’s makeups… yes I am totally addicted to her bold make up ideas. To Nuuna’s always is kind of charter makeup, that can set strong statements to a certain look. With the busy and detailed outfit, I wanted to do more editorial looking pictures to not miss the details on the styling. I more and more love to experiment with editorial shoots and new angles that are not looking that common, so this picture session really was fun πŸ˜‰

Wastelands – I finally got my first mesh head :p

sys + emotions 5

Today I will have my first post trying out my new mesh head. Before I want to go deeper into my mesh head adventure… I would like to drag your attention on the awesome clothing I chose for this post.

Today I chose a fantastic outfit from [sys], which totally caught my heart. The cool used cargo pants with the huge belt and the grunge looking top, totally would be something I would wear in RL as well.

Β The whole “Straps” set comes with a huge HUD to customize fabrics and colors and you as well can choose from 2 different fabrics in each 3 colors for the top. As well you can bus all the parts separate in many different colors at the actual round of Shiny Shabby.

The amazing and cool hair was made by Mirja Mills, owner and designer of EMO-tions. The “Sandrine” hair style totally went with the urban look of the “Straps” outfit from [sys]. The clean sorted and back pulled braids part over the right shoulder, so that you have some in front and some on the back of the shoulder. The perfect rigging makes it possible to move your shoulder and arm what ever direction you can imagine.

sys + emotions 4

The cool “Dagger” boots come from Gizza and originally were made for males. If you know me that is not something that holds me back from trying to wear them as a female as well :p.

Since one of the versions is a non rigged one, I was able to resize them and make them a little smaller to fit my female measures πŸ˜‰ I did not wanna wear too much jewelry to keep the urban character of the look, but the “Dulce” necklace from Kunglers was a wonderful match to keep the style idea.

sys + emotions 7

But now to the topic of my todays post… my first mesh head.

(My thoughts and opinions are just my very own ones,Β  for myself and I do NOT mean to attack anyone who has a different opinion about this topic!)

I was against the mesh heads for a very long time as to me personally you can try as much with skins and makeups, you always will look similar to so many others if you wear a mesh head. The probably results out of the fact, that we cannot yet customize the facial features on all of them. some allow at least some stretching to all directions of the whole head, but certain trademarks like the nose, the mouth or the eyes cannot really be customized as much as we are able with our default avatar head.

To me a unique face counts a lot as it makes a huge part of the character of an avatar. If you are in the modeling scene you are taught to make your avatar as unique as possible, to create trademarks that let you standout from many others and to selfbrand yourself. I never was looking too much left and right or tried to copy an already existing model or avatar even if I had seen many faces that I really adore. I more admired them for being how they are as usually they had a very distinctive face, that make them stand out where every they showed up. People like Shena Neox, Vixie Rayna, blackliquid Tokyoska, Absinthe (sintheontherocks), Kay Fairey or Honey Bender – to just name a few – I always was able to recognize on shows, vendors, printΒ  or video productions. And that kinda was my engine from the very beginning, to develop a face for Wicca, that always showed it was her without having her name tag right beside her.

sys + emotions 3

So you can imagine how I was wondering, when the first mesh heads came out and so many ppl ran like crazy for them. All of a sudden many people looked similar and after a while, it was even possible to name the heads and where they are coming from, anyways who was wearing them and what kind of skin they applied to it. I always questioned myself where the uniqueness was going with the lauch of the new aera of mesh attachments. I always tried the demos of the new mesh heads, anyways of which brand. Popular ones and as well the ones of the under dogs. More and more different heads came out but always when I tried them with several different skins, I never lost the feeling of loosing my own face by wearing one of the mesh heads.

For a while I skipped the idea of a mesh head for myself until about a week ago when the Skin Fair 2016 opened. As usual I went there to see if I could find a new skin for myself. I was surprised and disappointed as it seemed, that so many popular skin labels only made appliers for all kind of mesh heads but none anymore bothered with skins for the default avatar head. I left the fair after a short while and back at home the mesh heads came back to my mind and I again ran around and collected demos from all over the place.

After a few days of trying, I found one head that looked not too bad. The “Jessica” head from Catwa. It did not have those huge kissy lips that stuck out from the face and the nose was not as tiny as for the most I tried before. I thought I could give it a try and got it.

On the first day, when I did not yet bother too much about makeups yet, I just go me some freckles, as Wicca has freckles for years now. Together with the new “Isabelle” skin from [sys] I started my first mesh head adventure…

Since I was wearing a [sys] skin before I was lucky with all my other mesh body attachments like my Slink hands & feet or my Physique body, as I could use all my already existing appliers. On the first view I really did like the new “Jessica” head, even though it was not Wicca anymore. There are pros about a mesh head, that I really can see, as you do not have any angles or shadows on spots, where they do not belong, like we have them on our default avatar faces around the nose, on the forehead or around the chin. The head and face just look realistic and smooth. On the other hand, taking pictures is so much more easy as you do not have a lot of post processing in graphic programs anymore.

sys + emotions 1

The day after I started to fool around with makeups. I was told with the new Omega system it would be so easy to customize the face and make it my own, since you can use a variety of different makeups and face art. So I went for some Catwa – Omega makeup shopping…

Back home I unpacked them all and started testing… And ther the first huge disappointment came up…

The head limits a lot in using makeups or combine makeups in a way so that you do not see any seams. When I applied the first eye shadow it took off my freckles and when I tried to reapply the freckles parts of the eyeshadow were gone. So first of all for some makeups I have to make a decision if I want to take my freckles off or not. If you wanna achieve a realistic look as blogger and model, in my opinion you cannot have freckles on one day and none on the other as freckles as well are part of the character that you try to create. I can see that if you do not play too much with makeups and wear more of an everyday look with not too heavy makeups it might work perfectly well. But for the work of a model and blogger you usually play around with makeups a lot and the mesh head limits you in that like crazy, especially if you are an addicted to extraordinary, huge or mixed makeups. Mixing makeups, like adding up layers and create unique looks anyways does not work at all.

sys + emotions 2

My overall resume is not totally against mesh heads, as I can see the usage in some cases. For myself, I decided, that the mesh head might be fun for some pictures or art work, or even for vendor pictures sometimes, but not something I would wear in general as I would loose to much of Wicca and myself.

I am looking forward to the time when SL will add some more bones for the head creators, so we maybe can really customize the mesh heads with the sliders, like we used to with our default avatar faces πŸ˜‰

Black Friday Sale at GizzA

GizzA 1

Black Friday Sale at GizzA!

From the 27th of November until the 6th of December GizzA has several items discounted from 20% to 50% off.

So I decided to make some pictures with my today’s work shift outfit πŸ˜‰

GizzA 3

The amazing “Norsk Jacket with Cardigan” is one of the latest releases of GizzA at Shiny Shabby.

The cool jacket, the cardigan and the dress are one piece and you have a wide color selection available, where you can choose from.

GizzA 4

Β The amazing “London High Boots” are sold by GizzA as well. The cool over knee leather boots are perfect for the winter season and with each pack you will get two different colors.

The cute “Pastel Brushed Leather Bag” is one of my long time faves from NYU. It kinda reminds me about a bag I had, when I was at the university πŸ˜‰

GizzA 5

The awesome glasses are as well an item, you will find at Shiny Shabby, made by Sora Tatham for Gabriel.

What got my attention is a wonderful, sweet animation, that lets you swap the glasses from the usual ‘on the nose’ up to your forehead. That feature is part of a huge HUD, which lets you change the frames to different fabrics, as well the lens color and transparency and certainly you can resize it too.

LOTD 09/28/2015 – Today at GizzA

Gizza 1

Today was a cold but very sunny day. That inspired me to a more autumn, kinda ‘last sunbeam catching’ look.

The new “Sienna Ornamental” set from GizzA felt like the right choice for today.

The short leather skirt with the 2 slits definitely is an eyecatcher especially in gold and the amazing halterneck top with the deep neckline and the amazing wide and floating bottom is just a perfect match.

To add some more fashion to it, I put the “Quartz Glasses” from LeeZu and one of my favourite hairstyles from EMO-tions called “Rosi”.

LOTD 05/08/2014 – Charlie Chaplin’s little sister?

Gizza Chaplina 001

Sometimes it is fast and easy. You see something and immediately have a picture in mind what it should look like when you wear it. Exactly this I had with the “Suspenders Outfit” from GizzA. I was trying the ‘Dotty’ version and in the moment I put it on I had the vision of Charlie Chaplin. I have no clue why… maybe it was the amazing retro, vintage looking dotted top, the cute suspenders or the pinstriped texture of the pants. So I tried to think about what the little sister of Charlie Chaplin would style up like :p

As mentioned before the “Suspenders Outfit” from GizzA comes with mesh pants and top, so all I had to find was hair, shoes and some makeup, since I did not wanna overdo it with jewelry, as it wouldΒ  not have been appropriate in my opinion.

The shoe decision was fast. The “British Loafers” by Redgrave are one of my personal long time favourites and they add a light masculine touch to the look combined with the pants. For the hair I wanted to go with kind of a hat, but not a rel one when I remembered the “Bob Hair” from Bliss Couture. This hair had kinda an inbuilt hat made of hair and included in the actual hair style – perfect!

Love for Donna Flora – GizzA for Squinternet Larnia

Today I would like to show you another contribution for the great Love for Donna Flora event (http://lovedonnaflora.wordpress.com/2013/07/02/so-cancer-happened/)

Please make sure you visit the Love for Dona Flora sim and see all of those amazing designs, that were created to help Squinternet! (Taxi: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Brookridge/139/155/31)

For the first picture, the credits go out to Falbala Fairey. She asked if I would have blogged the “Yeriak” gown already, the one Giz Seorn, owner and designer of GizzA, made for he Love for Donna Flora event. She wanted to do a special picture together with another new release from GizzA, in a way of good versus evil. As usual I get asked to do the evil part I was wondering, why she asked me for the “Yeriak” gown…Β  as I arrived I saw Falli in the new “Thorn Dress” and I did understand… Today she gets to be the evil and me the good one! I would like to thank Falli for that amazing picture. She even did some wonderful closeups, that you can see together with her stylecard on her blog (http://falbalafaireyfashionblog.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/in-darkness-shines-the-light/)

Gizza - Yeriak for Donna Flora 001.

Let’s take a closer look on the “Yeriak” dress. The amazing corset shows, how much love for the detail Giz puts into her designs. The filigree and delicate lace that covers the waist and the wonderful opaque colored texture, that is placed on the chest make a perfect combination for this playful, vintage touched outfit. The gloves bring back the theme of the corset and the huge headpiece with the awesome sheer and flexible parts that are repeated in the skirt as well. The huge flowers that decorate the waist and as well the hat add a huge ‘eye catcher factor’ and together with the stockings and the garters it makes a perfect vintage touched outfit. The whole ensemble is a perfect contribution to the Love for Donna Flora event as it kinda is a tribute as well to Squinternet Larnia, the queen of the vintage look πŸ˜‰
