People love burlesque today because it incorporates all the old-school glamour, satire and highlights the female form – it’s something that many women can actually see themselves doing.

Burlesque, is a form of performing art that reaches back to at least the 1860s in the US. Presented in cabarets, theaters and some other location, burlesque was mostly presented by women. Colorful and laborious costumes as well as mood appropriate music and dramatic lightning, sometimes even fire breathing were part of many burlesque shows. The goal was not to totally strip down, more to just take of certain clothing like gloves and stockings, which sometimes spoke louder as a common striptease.
Burlesque lost it’s popularity towards the simple strip in the 1920/30s, but in it was never totally gone and got back some popularity way later with Hollywood productions and several organisations and clubs that try to keep the burlesque feeling and lifestyle alive. It was often called New-Burlesque or Neo-Burlesque and the 90s brought a huge comeback of the whole idea. In 2010 the movie Burlesque, with Christina Aguliera and Cher, this new way of a more modern burlesque feeling was shown in an amazing way. Dita von Teese is probably the most popular burlesque dancer nowadays and with all her productions, performances, products and marketing she is an amazing and valuable asset of the Neo-Burlesque movement.
Certainly hat was just a very short information about Burlesque and I could go on for hours to talk more about it as I personally really do like the idea of a burlesque lifestyle, but I will safe you from that and just move on to my todays post 😉
The reason why I came across Burlesque again, was the actual round of the GENRE event. It is the first time that we got invited with wicca’s Wardrobe to be part and then right there the theme Burlesque.. you can imagine how much I smiled all over when I saw that.
The GENRE event aims for items, that are not more expensive than 100 L$. We made the amazing “Fleur” boots for the event and set each of the 12 colors for 99 L$. The idea behind the boots were to give some old-fashioned, victorian themed Burlesque boots a little modern twist in shape and colors 😉
When we set up the event I found so many other incredible designs that I could not resist to grab some and do pictures with all of them. The amazing fitting “Versailles Fall” corset with the amazing frills around your hips comes from Honey Bender for ber new original mesh label BENDER. The corset itself is an applier for the mesh body, what underlines every woman’s body shape in a very true way 😉 The beautiful frills that surround the hips come in different sizes to make sure they fit your curves.
The lovely accessories, the adorable collar and the awesome realistic cigarette, I found as well at the GENRE event. It was just amazing how all the parts feel together in one without overthinking it too much ;).
For the set I used the entire “Belle Rouge” collection from [noctis] – even that used lingerie which hangs down from the chandlier and lies on the couch and the floor came with the set. The chair I am posing on was made by [BlackTulip] and for the other pictures I used poses from the “Teese Me” set made by {Nantra}. Everything besides the head, body and hair in this post comes from GENRE, so you better hurry to make your way over there and see what else is there. There are many more than the few I was able to use for my post :p
