Me, myself and I

Recently I was asked, why you never do casual anymore? Are you only going to do scary and creepy pictures now? Are you going to give up your versatileness?

The simple answer is… NO!

But what I gave up is to let others dictate me what I am doing or how I am showcasing things on my blog *winks*

I am in Second Life nearly 13 years now and I tried a lot of things on my blog. When I started I thought I have to have as many posts a day as I can pump out on one day and that 7 days a week. I had times where I ran though 5 to 7 “posts” a day – Posts in terms of I do a quick snap shot and post a style card. That didn’t satisfy me after some time and I started to write something to every picture. First the facts about the clothing, like what kind of HUDs, how many colors or what special features they had. Later even a little bit of a review about what I liked most of the items and designs I was given to blog. Again I felt at some point that that wasn’t the only thing what I liked to do and I dared to write a little bit about things in SL that bothered me, or about certain topics to explain them better as I had a feeling they were misunderstood and underestimated a lot. That I still like to do and sometimes my blog even was a place to vent for me and write things just off my soul to get rid of them. In my view a blog has to be more than just a style card. If I just would like to have style cards nowadays, I would just blog on Flickr I guess. But since I usually need or want more than one picture to showcase my styling, to as well highlight the details, I decided to keep my blog and continue to write what comes to my mind or sometimes even just post lyrics and tunes if I feel like it or have nothing to say.

Today I really felt kinda casual, or better I felt like doing my way of casual styling. When I showed my look to a friend and said I felt casual, she laughed her ass of and said: “Yeah, maybe for you that would be casual… could you ever imagine to go out like that?” My answer was: “Oh yeah… I did that in my 20s”. she stopped talking and asked if I would be serious… yes, I am serious. I was a little rebel in my RL as well – probably I am still one, but my temper might be more adult now as it used to be *snickers*

So lets take a look at the style… I wanted to use the “Fianna” face tattoo from Nefekalum Tattoos, parts of the “Voodoo Dolls Backpack and Mouthdoll” gacha set and the brand new “Infernal Claws” from .:E.A.Studio:. , the “Pepper Ankle Boots” from [Gos] and the “Heavy Duty Collar” made by CerberusXing. So I put that all on and looked at it thinking how the hell I could make this work as a look that I would call casual…

Maybe lets take a closer look at the “basic” parts I just had put on and then go from there. The “Pepper Ankle Boots” from [Gos] are a perfect pair of shoes for many kind of genres you want to style for. You can wear them to jeans, skirts, dresses or even to lingerie. With the edgy tip of the shoes and the huge, heavy heel it is very versatile as it combines the smart with the elegant for me. With the possibility to choose from many leather colors as well as from metal, shiny colors it allowed a huge range of use.

The “Voodoo Doll Backpack” is part of a gacha from .:E.A.Studio:. it is one of the rares and comes with a huge HUD to customize it for different colors and outfits. It is designed to wear it over one shoulder with a little buckled strap. The “Infernal Claws ” you will find at the 3rd Edition of the Fetish Fair at the booth of .:E.A.Studio:. until the 27th of December. You can choose if you want to wear only the rings or the nails or the whole set of it. With the HUD you have the possibility to color the metals and leather, the claw itself on the middle finger, the rings and the you even can color and hide all the nails separate for each finger. An amazing set and a must have for every Gothic wardrobe!

The “Heavy Duty Collar” from CerberusXing lives up to its name. It is a heavy iron collar, which lays around your neck with an attached leash in the front. It really has a martial look but I do love the feeling when a heavy cold metal collar gets locked around my neck *grins wickedly*. The face tattoo, even better the Face art comes from Skye Nefekalum for his brand Nefekalum Tattoos. It is very special and for me it did support the martial look of the collar perfectly as it as well is very harsh and dark.

To me that makes a perfect “Wicca Casual” and even if I am aware of, that this might not be a casual for everyone… this is my blog, my Second Life,Β  my personal fun and creativity and the spot where I can be 100% me, myself and I *winks*

Nude or Naked? – A Tribute to Flora Borsi

The past weeks/months I was allowed to be part of the latest VISIONAIRE batch. VISIONAIRE offers classes/workshops for inworld photography. When I first told a few friends, that I am excited about VISIONAIRE, they asked me why I would want to go there. I would already do pictures for such a long time and as well, I would work with Photoshop and could do PS tutorials instead.

I tried to tell them, that I am working on my own for such a long time and that I kinda felt stuck in my own world with my pictures. I love going to schools and workshops and learn new things or even get pointed out some things that I might have forgotten over the time. I do not know how to describe it, but it is like even if you know things, you can forget about them so easy and with classes and workshops you get a sweet reminder. Sometimes you learn something, you cannot use it right away and then you forget about it, even if it would be very useful for something else. Sometimes you try things and you do not like it at all and feel overchallenged at the moment you practice, but after some time you might be able to work it out, but you forgot about. And in the end it is always great if you get some critique on your work, that most of the time will encourage you to try better in my view.

I was very excited when we met the first time – I nearly was nervous, because the classes were going to be in voice and I am always afraid, to not able to follow properly if it comes to technical terms and stuffs. Soon I realized, I am not the only non native speaker, which made it a little easier. When I started to cam around, I again got scared seeing some big names beside me and I nearly fell for the same weird question I was asked “What they are doing here, they are so good!” :p But since I had my own reasons to do the course, I scratched that thought quickly πŸ˜‰

The classes, even if they took hours, were awesome. For many weeks, Sundays were completely dedicated to that chatty, funny and passionated people and I do not regret one minute. I have to admit, I felt strange sometimes and again the old discussion “it is because you are unique – it is because you are special” came up and I wanted to quit. I hate that term!!! There is times where you just want to be one of many and not the one, that stands out because of weird thoughts and craziness. I remember one Sunday, where we were supposed to look at pictures to find the spot in the picture, where our eyes where pulled at and then explain why. You start to get frustrated, if your eyes mostly get attracted by other things than the rest of the group sees…

I really had moments, where I thought I am just too stupid, or too weird to understand/see things. So I started to remain silent – Certainly Wren and Koko caught that and asked me why and told me that this would not be the solution. Since I am not a kid, I was aware of that and I tried to explain my problem. Wren was very understanding and I have to say she was so striving to calm me down and back into the ‘chat mode’. It took me a week to get back on track, but since we had fun homeworks all week, it was easy to step back into the group – they made it super easy for me too and did not even bring it up again.

Home work always sounds bad, but in case of VISIONAIRE they were amazing as the challenged me every week and go me out of my ‘same procedure like always’ mode, which kinda crept into my photography habit. It sometimes dragged me out if my comfort zone and made me re-think a lot of things not only technique wise, but as well composition wise πŸ™‚

It was interesting to get critique and opinions for the home work every week. Sometimes I did not even think about things, that others saw in my pictures. Again the old term “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” made its point πŸ™‚ Even the never ending story “Why this picture of mine got so many faves while the other – which I personally like so much more – got less likes” got touched and Koko had some very interesting ideas to that subject, which again gave me a new perspective – Did you ever think about, if you do pictures with male or female gaze, or what even would be the difference on that in terms of art and photography?

Another great part was the using of glow, lights and projectors. While I hate glow, I always liked using projectors and lights but I never was able to really use them to their full beauty. I normally used 1 or 2 lights or projectors, not thinking about the fact that I could have more to highlight certain parts of the body, even certain spots of the whole scenery. In the past lights and projectors were my personal “OMG that never does what it should” overchallenging situations and I usually gave up on them. BUT if you have a homework… you damn try :p.

In one of the classes, when our home work was to create a portrait. Linda Reddevil, did one being inspired by Flora Borsi. I saw some of her pictures already, but I never was familiar with that artist. When Linda brought her up, I googled again and was so impressed that I wanted to to a picture inspired by Flora Borsi.

It was luck, that to the same time Jian has their amazing flamingos at the FLF and so I took it as a sign and started to work on my idea. While I was doing the shoot, my mind went back to a subject we had at our VISIONAIRE meetings as well. A discussion about an ongoing trend in SL or on SL Flickr pictures – nudity. It seems if you throw and press your private parts into peoples faces, you get a lot of favorites on Flickr. I never was against nudity in arts in general, as long as it was done with class and not only or all of the time. There is much more, what can appeal sexy, than just simple show-offs in a crude way. Does it really have to show ‘everything’ all of them time? Is sometimes not just a basis idea the key to let the imagination fly? I remember very well a scene of movie, where people still going on about, if you see something or not. The interrogation scene in Basic Instinct, which is probably the most famous scene of that movie. The moment where Sharon Stone switching her one leg over the other, so many people did rewind that moment, to see if she would have panties on or not and we still do not know, because we saw… nothing, while the imagination was taking off.

Maybe it is because I am a German. I know it is not everywhere like this, but in Germany, if you strip naked on a public media source (internet, magazines, Youtube, etc.), you need back some more attention to your person. In 90% of the time it is done by people, who suffer from fading popularity or fading fame. Before they become an extinct star on the sky of fame, they do that as a last try to get back into social media and in the heads of the people. For a while it works, but it basically for most is just to protract, what anyways will come and they just win a certain period of time before it happens. That is one of the reasons, why I never even thought about having my boobies all over my Flickr, as well I never had the desire to share that with everyone, even if it is just pixels. To me nude does NOT have to be naked all the time πŸ˜‰

With Flora Borsi in the back of my head, I started experimenting with my naked body and the flamingos, how I could show everything and nothing the same time. Since I even wanted to try again to draw hair, I even was bold. I only had changed my lashes to something unusual, while my whole body and head was completely nude and natural. They key was a pose I got from Falbala Fairey called “Crouched 6”. It previously was a gift for a store and now it is back in her own store for sale. With that pose and pushing the flamingos in the right position I only needed a pillow to sit on and I was done.

Drawing hair still is a huge, exciting and time consuming project for me and again I was not yet even close to be satisfied with what I tried, so I again did lend me some instant painted hair to work with from Rayne Morgan aka Nina Rosario (in SL), only added a few strands of my own on those spots, that did not quite fit to my pose or avatar shape and colored it to match the flamingos.

I had a lot of fun working on the concept and the pictures and I hope I did make sense with my words as well. I am not just a prude German, I just prefer artistic and tasteful nude over just blunt views on others private parts on social media πŸ˜‰

Special thanks to Linda Reddevil for making me looking deeper into Flora Borsi’s art again and VISIONAIRE for their amazing course!

Who says it always has to be a Bikini?

Do you know that feeling, when you get told by people what you can do and what you can’t do?

I do and sometimes I am getting tired of it πŸ˜‰ That usually brings out the little rebel in me and I do want to prove them I can do everything I want – usually in SL that is easier than in RL, but it works in both worlds somehow πŸ˜‰

I was in such a mood, when I put on the new lingerie from [Gos]. With the “Diana” lingerie set, I was thinking about an idea for pictures. I tried all the usual stuff first – laying n a bed, a couch or a sofa… on the ground with some aerial, wavy cloth… all looked ‘ok’ but none did the ‘WOW’ for me. That made me think of something completely different. Why not doing a summer, pool inspired scenery. Like you come from work, or you were on a walk with your dogs and you see that amazing pool and have no swimsuit or bikini? If you have a lingerie like the “Diana” lingerie from [Gos], it is not a problem to use that for a quick refreshment *snickers* Who says it always has to be a bikini?

When I saw the cute “Fun in the sun Frenchies” gacha from Bee Designs, I fell in love with the little puppies in a blink. The gacha holds 4 different kinds of little dogs in 4 different coat colors – Swimmers, Held Puppers, Companions and Wanderers besides the 3 special rares. They are so cute and adorable I simply could not resist to not have them in my pictures πŸ˜‰

The amazing pool decor you can find at the actual round from the Liaison Collaborative, made by Bee Designs.

As well an awesome new release you can find at the actual anniversary round of the Cosmopolitan events which only has a few days left. The “No.I don’t” hair style from no.match.

The perfect hair style for a warm, sunny summer day. With the little knot up at the back head and the long hair falling down your back it is perfect for swimming as well πŸ˜‰

Typical for no.match you get a lot of different possibilities for the color HUDs. I really love the hair textures of no.match an as well the special blond tones, they go so very well with my skin tone and the no eyebrow trademark that I now have for quite a few years.

Last but not least I would like to drag the view on the amazing “Diana D’Orsay” pumps as well made by [Gos]. With the delicate lace and the second color high light option at the back of the foot, they match perfectly to the lingerie, which as well has solid parts and amazing lace parts. The best advantage is, the color HUDs of both make a perfect match , because they hold all the same colors πŸ˜‰

Summertime

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy’s rich and your ma is good-lookin’
So hush, little baby, don’t you cry
One of these mornings you’re gonna rise up singing
And you’ll spread your wings and you’ll take to the sky
But till that morning, there ain’t nothin’ can harm you
With daddy and mammy standin’ by

Fantasy is Escapist, and that is its Glory

β€œFantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
[J.R.R. Tolkien]

Isn’t Second Life a place where we can escape reality? Isn’t Second Life a place to experiment and live visions and dreams? – To me it is!

I am not saying my way is the best or the only one, as Second Life is a platform where everyone can do and life what ever they want. It should be a place where you can do everything that you can imagine and dream of for yourself. As kids we played Barbie or enjoyed various roleplay like Cowboy and Indian, Robin Hood and the Lady Marian or what ever we wanted. To me Second Life is just an extension of that.

I can dress up with everything my mood is leading me to. Mostly it is something I could not wear in RL. Sometimes it can be casual as well but usually it has some twist on it to make it my own. Often I was told, you need to decide to a certain direction to set a trademark or make yourself a brand – I never could decide for one and why should I in a world that gives you like nearly unlimited options? I thought by myself if it could not be my trademark to not have a certain look or style πŸ˜‰

Since I decided about that, I felt so much more free to experiment and play with all kind of things. There is only a few things, I set as my own limits to myself. I never would do porn, as I personally think there is no need to do that on a virtual fashion blog, as you can do so much more with nudity or semi nudity in an artistic way and it is nothing that I would like to share with a wide range of people anyways. As well i never would touch any illegal things, that go against common sense or the law, I never felt the desire to do such at all. That said, I just have fun playing with several things and lately I do love creating my own sceneries and backgrounds or add something personal to places I do love to snap at.

One of my favorite sim collectives for fantasy themed pictures is the Ippos Collective. A consortium of 4 sims. Sylpha, Nymphai, Ippos and Pegasoi. Each sim has a certain theme to it and all of them are decorated in an amazing way with much love to the details. All of them are changing their seasons, which always gives new things and settings to discover. There are a few parcels that are rented, but as long as you respect their privacy you can even rezz some props and pose stands to make your perfect shot. The owners are extremely sweet and kind and always have an open ear if you need help or advice. Most of them do amazing pictures like for example Duchess Flux. I am very happy to be allowed to call her a friend. She was there, backed me up and trusted me in some of the darkest hours of my SL. I won’t ever forget that – Thank you Duchie β™₯

I only can give a rough view of the sims as no words I know would satisfy the beauty of those very special places. You need to wander all across the collective and even then you won’t see everything on your first walk πŸ˜‰

Ippos is mostly a residential sim. It has a beautiful landscape of a fantasy world, like a hidden treasure in the middle of a forest. No wonder that it is built in such an beautiful way, since well known SL bloggers and photographers call that palce their home and the parcels are really desired and not often open for new rentals.

On Nymphai you will find all the amazing events like the Enchantment or the Secret Affair as well as some main stores of fantastic and creative designers.

Pegasoi to me looks more like the romantic and sweet fantasy part of the group. You will find the Lady Garden Cabaret there, which shows monthly shows of amazing and creative artists.

Last but not least we have Sylpha, the water sim. Any desire you have for water based pictures you will find there. Weather you would like to do some peaceful island pictures or you actually would like to really swim in Linden water together with fishes and dolphins – everything is possible!

If you like more and detailed info about the Ippos Collective just take a look atΒ https://threadsandtuneage.com/ippos/

If you are in such an amazing fantasy environment you have to dress up to fit in there πŸ˜‰ This time I wanted to showcase one of the amazing hats from Spartin Parx. The “Milli” hat comes with a huge HUD. You can change the base to 6 different colors and the sweet roses on the top have a variety of 9 colors to chose from.

I thought a long time about how I could style it to not loose the focus on the hat but as well have a cute fantasy look. First I thought about something uniform based, I do not know why and I discovered very fast that this was not the way it would work out. The hat had a Victorian touch to me and finally I found a sweet doll looking outfit that just did the trick πŸ˜‰ For the boots I went with the “Kora” boots form UTOPIA@Design. I do have an addiction to over-knee boots, maybe because I do not often have the opportunity to wear them RL, as they would not fit into my everyday job most of the time ;). With the laces in the front, they totally matched the Victorian look, while the steel caps in the front added some strong, modern feelings to the whole look, which i loved a lot for the whole photo composition.

Orange & Black – Warm & Vibrant!

Today I was not sure what I wanted to do, except playing with the combination of a strong color and black. Since I did that often enough with red, I wanted to do something with a more vibrant color and as well bring in my spring mood into it. That was why I chose to go with a light orange that kinda dips into yellow – or I had too much honey in my tea lately :p

I wanted to use one of the pose props that I got during the last Exposeur sale. ” The Minimalist” had such awesome poses to it and it did give me the possibility to play some more with projectors as well since the ball to pose on is surrounded by a black box where projectors, shadows and lights will work amazing.

Recently I found out, that you can have more than one shadow if you work with different projectors that have different colored lights. If you hit the right angle and play with your windlight you can produce amazing effects. This time I was aiming for one darker and one lighter shadow.

When I started to look for some yellow/orange things in my inventory I stumbled across the “Honey” makeup and eyes from Queen of Ink and when I saw that… I just had to fool with it. That probably was the moment when I was sold to the orange/yellow part of the pictures :p

I more and more love my unplanned shoots as it is like playing roulette.. you never know what it will be and it is somehow a challenge to bring all the parts you have together if you do not think about everything before you start πŸ˜‰ Maybe I should think about color or theme challenges for myself and have one each month… I do have to think about that, that could be fun!

For now I hope you liked my color and shadow play as much as I did πŸ˜‰
