Its hunger was staggering

The craving for human flesh drove the creature into the early morning fog. In the cemetery awaited a new grave and sustenance. As it neared the fresh mound of dirt, the sound of heavy footsteps stopped the creature.
Two men, hunters with rifles slung over their shoulders, approached the forest near the creature’s hiding place. Dense trees and heavy foliage darkened the wooded corpse. Only a stray beam of sunshine could break through the heavy veil.
It followed quietly behind the humans. The hunters were now the prey. With each silent step, the creature shifted into wolf form. If somehow it was seen, a wolf in these woods would not raise an alarm that its true form would.
The first human made no sound as the creature sprang from its cover and easily snapped the man’s neck. The human in the lead turned to speak to his companion, but was dead before he could aim his weapon.
The creature chuckled as it shapeshifted back to its nature form. Humans are so easy to hunt. Their arrogance makes them careless. As if their weapons could ever harm any of its kind.
The young ones will benefit from the blood and after a week or two, the rotted flesh will be quite tasty. For now, it needed to return to the grave as planned. It had no taste for fresh meat. Only rotted, decayed flesh would satisfy the gnawing in the pit of its stomach.
Working quickly, in case more human hunters were about, the creature clawed through the fresh dirt to the plain wooden box buried deep. Oh, this one was a fat, succulent morsel of a man. Women tended to be too lean and children were hardly substantial.
The temptation to feast now was overwhelming, but the creature dare not spare the time. The risk of exposure was too great here in the cemetery. It closed the now empty casket and returned the dirt so no one would be suspicious.
Careful to leave no evidence behind, the creature picked up the body as if as it weighed nothing. It returned to the woods where it left the two hunters stuffed beneath the remains of a fallen tree.
It was a good day. Food aplenty for months. But winter was approaching. It would need to forage a few more times to insure a comfortable hibernation before the first snow fell. A ghoul has to do what a ghoul has to do to keep her family fed.
The creature returns to its lair. an old and forgotten slaughter house far from town. The perfect place to hide and raise its young ones until it is time for them to leave the nest. Its children should be sleep now, but will wake soon and demand food.
Yet one is missing – the eldest. A lopsided smile creeps across the creatures face as it carries the food to the preparation area. There, hard at work draining the blood from a fresh corpse, is the eldest child. The young one looks up with a look of apprehension, a need for approval.
The Ghoul drops the corpses to the floors and slowly approaches the young Ghoul who is squatted on the floor beside a blood filled bucket. Its hand caresses the young one’s face as a sense of pride washes over it. A macabre smile appears on the Ghoul’s face.

I hear the ding of the elevator and the squeak of the janitor’s cart being loaded onto the car. What does it say when the cleaning staff is calling it a night before me?
Working late hours suck, but this one contract will put my company on the map. Just a few more weeks and all my hard work and long hours will pay off. At least, professionally.
My personal life is another story. Working late hours suck!
The ding of the elevator makes me look up from my computer. This late, no one should be here. I hear the click, click, click of heels coming down the long hallway that lead to my office and stop outside my door.
The knob turns and the door opens slowly. I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until I see my unexpected guest. Skye! We have dated now for six months. Once this is project is over, I planned to take the next step and ask her to move in with me. But since we haven’t seen each other in a couple weeks, because I practically live at the office, I am sure she is ready to break-up with me instead.
Skye doesn’t say a word as she closes and locks the door behind her. That is when I notice her clothing. So very un-Skye like. She’s wearing a short, belted leather coat that comes to the top of a sexy pair of leather thigh high boots. All the blood just left my head; well, the one on my shoulders.
A mischievous smile spread over Skye‘s face as she reached for the belt of her coat. In seconds, her coat was pooled on the floor at her feet. At the foot of those damned sexy thigh high boots. Those boots and NOTHING else.
“Since you are too busy to leave the office,” Skye says in a seductive voice as she walks over to my chair and straddles my lap. “I thought I would pay a house call.”
Working late hours has some perks.

Tonight, the last one will die.

As Ivar dressed, he looked at the bloody axe on the table. There were four of them that fateful night. Four who turned his life into a living hell. All his life, Ivar kept his head down, worked hard and never even swatted a fly. His only crime was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They were the golden boys of their high school; star athletes loved by the community. Ivar was a nobody with a drunk whore of a mother and whose father was anyone’s guess.
High from winning the State Championship, cocaine and cheap liquor, the fabulous four, out for a joyride, came across Ivar walking home from work late that night. He was stripped naked, tied to a tree and doused with alcohol. The golden boys took turns flicking lit matches at his head.

They laughed as Ivar begged them to stop. They laughed as tears ran down Ivar’s face. They laughed until one match ignited the alcohol. Then they stopped laughing. They ran to their car as Ivar screamed in agony as the flames burned his flesh. They never looked back at the destruction they wrought.

Ivar survived. Horribly scared. In constant pain. But he survived.

It has taken years to get revenge. As his recovery dragged on, Ivar’s anger and hatred grew. He planned and tracked the lives of his four tormentors. Their lives went on; Ivar’s did not. Until six months ago. One by one, Ivar hunt them down. He made each one beg. He made each one cry. He made each one scream in pain. Then each one died. Only one was left. He’s gone into hiding, but Ivar tracked him down.
Tonight, the last one will die.

Introducing the Deacon Arms, by Wicca’s Originals.

There are disturbing rumors about the process for augmenting into this ghoulish set of sleeves, and speculation that it has been known to change people.

First, your arms are cast in a silicone-based substance for a skin-tight fit. Once that has been done, the hooked spines themselves are inserted one at a time, with a numbing anesthetic inserted through both sleeve and flesh.

Lastly, the long, claw-like nails are secured to the fingers. After the anesthetic agents wear off, the constant aching pain felt by the wearer is said to cause some to go mad, and succumb to a primal need to hunt and inflict pain on others. But all of this could just be urban legend; maybe it’s just a sleeve that can be worn to accessorize a darker style after all.

Eternal Cycle

The dark seas churn off the barren shoreline; nothing but sand and rocks as far as the eye could see. This is a safe haven. Safe from the world. Safe from predators.
It moves stealthily, careful not to leave a trail in the sand. Nimble for it size and appearance, it easily carries its fresh catch toward the hidden lair that’s been home for centuries. Even the creature no longer knows how old it was, but remembered how it came to be. How they all came to be.
There were twelve of them at the time of creation. At first they banded to together to protect each other, but once humanity discovered them, they were worshipped by some, scoffed by others. What fools, mankind. One by one, the others disappeared, searching for peace and solitude. What good does escape do now that we are exposed. Even the heavens mock us from above. As long as the stars exist in the sky, we are immortal.
After one last look at the full moon, that which guides the very cycle of its life, the creature slips into its home. Claws easily snap through the thick body of the Great White shark that crossed its path in search for sustenance. There are only a few more days before the mighty Lion’s turn to reign. Soon the great Crab can rest again and allow the others to rule.
Foolish humans. Allowing their lives to be dictated by astrology.
