Belated Happy Halloween! – Or welcome to the dark season of the year *winks*

Slowly I start to believe Vivien more and more when she said 2022 is cursed and we just should skip the rest of it… After catching Covid the 3rd time I started to get better again when my the kids of my school gifted me some kind of weird flu – another week down. Now last weekend It felt like it would be over and agreed to have lunch with my mom. I said I will prepare everything and we will come down to eat, so she doesn’t have to get up all the stairs (we live in one house but 2 different apartments). So we prepared everything and already were on our way down. I still felt a little wonky so the second half of the stairs, my partner decided to take the potatoes and the meat off my hands which I was carrying in a pot. When he had everything, I thought I could get down a little faster and … DANG… I fell down the second half of the stairs. Right knee, left shoulder and left wrist did hurt like hell and parts of the hand already were dark red, a few days later dark blue. My  knee was the worst as I could not walk anymore kinda instantly – Another half week on the couch and not really able to sit or move.. bye bye Halloween *sighs*

So today is the first day I was able to get up again and limp on my own through the apartment to my computer and sit down to work a little bit.

So you will have to stick with some more creepy, spooky pictures for a while I guess, as I prepared quite a few for Halloween *giggles* – But then, most of you are anyway used to my dark side and the fact that the dark season for me doesn’t end with Halloween anyway :p

The night did not go as Helena expected.

The plan was to meet Hillary, her bestie, and Hillary’s fiancé at that new club opening. He is some kind of big time promoter and one of his new clients was premiering as their new DJ.

Dressed in her new leather corset and shorts, Helena left her apartment excited for a night of great music and dancing. It was ages since she had the opportunity to just have fun. But she realized her best friend had set her up, again, on a blind date.

Month after month Helena endured the ‘perfect guy for you’ speech from Hillary and each time politely declined. Tonight her best friend apparently decided to cut out the middle man and make the date in her name.

He was an accountant! Helena wasn’t prejudice against accountants – she was a CPA in a prestigious firm. But she spent long hours every week with accountants and the last thing she wanted was to date one. What she should have done the moment she spotted him at their table was turn on her heel and gone home. Sadly, Helena was raised better than that, so she stayed out of politeness and endured.

Howard, yes, that was his name, was the personification of the dull, lifeless, stereotypical accountant. His hobby was memorizing actuarial tables. And, yes, he actually lived with his mother!

Normally Helena nursed a drink through the night, but the moment she was introduced to Howard, that plan went down the drain. Three tequila shots later and Hillary suggested they all dance. She just lost best friend status.

Howard’s dance teacher, you guessed it, his mother, only taught him two things – the box step and how to step on his partner’s toes. By the times Helena limped back to their table, she had a broken toe, bruised ribs and a torn corset. Howard attempted a spin.

As Helena pulls out her phone to call an Uber to get her the hell out of this nightmare, Hillary grabs her arm and begs Helena to stay. Hillary just lost friend status and will be unfriended from all my social media accounts, but Helena reluctantly agreed to stay. The date can’t get any worse – right?

Wrong!

Needless to say, Helena ends up in the emergency room with cuts, abrasions, a black eye, twisted ankle and a plastic stir stick embedded in her shoulder.

And the truly sad thing – that was not Helena’s worst first date.

There was no moon to light her way, but it also cloaked her escape. She ran as fast as she could through the dense woods on pure instinct, like an animal in flight, Fitting, since he treated her like a dog.
One minute He offered a kind hand; lulled her into a false sense of comfort. Then, without warning, the pain He caused tore her heart and soul to shreds, Was love suppose to be so painful?
She fell against a tree as her legs gave out beneath her. Lungs burning, her breath sawed harshly in and out of her chest. She looked over her shoulder to see if anyone pursued, but all she saw was darkness. That was all her life really was – endless darkness.
Others had escaped and He had dismissed their absence with a flick of a wrist as if they were nothing more than an annoying gnat. But He said Rhoda was special. Is that why He especially enjoyed hurting her? Building her up to only beat down so far that death was her only escape?
Yes, she often thought of death. The sweet release. The peaceful darkness. She came close, several times. The promises He made and failed to keep. The lies that so easily rolled off his tongue. Sweet words meant to pacify a child that held no meaning to Him as walked away and left her alone and bleeding while he went to find pleasure with his other woman.

That’s not love. That’s greed. The need to possess more than anyone else. A selfish child hoarding all the toys just so no one else could have them. If one was lost, three more took its place. That’s all she really was – a shiny trinket to display. His true pleasure came from the compliments He received about her. Yes, that stroked His ego. He loved what she earned Him – adoration.
No more. She was not a thing. She was not the shiny ruby He named her after. She had a name! And by all that was holy, she would hear that name again or die trying. When she heard His angry shout, she hide behind the tree. His punishments were cruel, oh so very cruel.
It was time to run. Nowhere to go. No one to help her. It didn’t matter. If she didn’t run for her life now, the last tiny bit of life inside her would die.
He won’t hurt her again. No one will ever hurt Rhoda again.
