Post Apocalyptic – What is that?

As promised, I will today talk a little bit about post apocalyptic styles in comparison to cyber/cyberpunk, which I wrote about in one of my last posts (https://wiccamerlin.de/cyberpunk-what-is-that/).

Maybe lets start again with a general description from Wikipedia and then go from there 😉

Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction is a subgenre of science fiction, science fantasy or horror fiction literature in which the Earth’s technological civilization is collapsing or has collapsed. The apocalypse event may be climatic, such as runaway climate change; natural, such as an impact event; man-made, such as nuclear warfare or resource depletion; medical, such as a Pandemic, whether natural or man-made; or imaginative, such as a zombie apocalypse, cybernetic revolt, technological singularity, dysgenics, or alien invasion. The story may involve attempts to prevent an apocalypse event, deal with the impact and consequences of the event itself, or it may be post-apocalyptic, set after the event. The time frame may be immediately after the catastrophe, focusing on the travails or psychology of survivors, the way to maintain the human race alive and together as one, or considerably later, often including the theme that the existence of pre-catastrophe civilization has been forgotten (or mythologized). Post-apocalyptic stories often take place in a non-technological future world, or a world where only scattered elements of society and technology remain.

Post apocalyptic is the time after an apocalypse, that means the world like we know it is gone and we have to live from all that is left over. Most likely electricity is not working in general.. maybe via a few generators that are left as long as we have the fuel to run them. Water might be rare, so the everyday shower probably has o be skipped as well 😉

It probably is a martial, warlike environment, where all just try to survive – anyways how.

Let’s think about what you could wear then or what kind of fashion would be most certain…

I would say makeups will be a rare case, maybe we can use coal or clay, maybe even some berries or fruit that survived, to bring color on our faces. I do not see that very colorful or even neon looking.

For the clothing, when we looted all existing warehouses and clothing stores, we most likely have to wear what we can find, or what we can create out of that. Maybe that’s why I love that genre so much as it is very simple but as well can be very creative in terms of fashion and creating outfits.

Because of the fact, that I really do love post apocalyptic clothing and environment, I really was happy when I heard that there will be an event exactly for that. From the 18th to the 27th of August, the Thereafter event is taking place.

A full sim created in a post apocalyptic style, with many amazing designers who designed fashion, furniture, ambience, poses or landscaping items for exact that futuristic imagination.

The outfits and props for my todays post are all from the event and as well the pictures are taken there. Don’t you love it when you can go shopping and as well take amazing pictures or walk around in the perfect environment for the event?

For my first post I chose the “Bena” dress with the amazing belt and scarf. The dress comes in many different colors and together with the 2 amazing accessories it just looks totally amazing, even if you can wear the dress without those as well.

From Boom I used the super cool shoulder plates, that are made of car plates – I just love such neat little details!

Last but not least I am wearing the event exclusive from ~isil~, the extraordinary mask of the “Survival Mask & Helmet” design. You can choose to wear only the mask or the helmet with the HUD that comes with it and as well lets you retexture the whole item to many different colors – even the little light in the mask you can colorchange.

For the rest of the look I am wearing many parts of DeathRowDesign, that are as well the creators of the amazing building in the background of the pictures. The “Sewer Shelter” is a wonderful collection with all kind of fantastic furniture and as well a built that you can use as your perfect post apocalyptic hideout 😉

Over the next few days I will have a few more exciting news from the event, as it became an addiction to make pictures on the Thereafter sim 😉

And though I’d like to stand by him, can’t shake this feeling that we have.

That I am a Tim Burton lover is not a secret. I love the movies and I as well love t he architecture and the clothing that is used in all of the movies. Anyways if Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride or Beetlejuice ( and so many others certainly) – I am an addicted and saw them all more than once 😉 I love the dark humor and the way how Tim Burton expresses things in his movies.

When I saw the “Elvina” outfit from .AiShA., I instantly had a ‘Buronesque’ idea in mind.

The striped leggings immediately pulled the “Burton” trigger in me :p

When I was looking for some furniture for my set, I just typed ‘Burton’ in my inventory search and had a lot of things coming up, that I already forgot that I have them!

I played around with the “Inspired by Burton” set from 22769 and completed the set with a bookshelf from Toiz and some parts of the “Burton Tea Party” from Cheeky Pea. I liked the shelf with the books falling out so much for the whole scene 😉

It was really hard to choose from all the snaps I had – I had so much fun playing with the set and all of my Poseidon poses 😉

Today I have an awesome gacha outfit from Salt & Pepper for you. The “Like a Prayer” gacha is available at the actual round of ROMP.

The gacha comes with so many different itmes and colors, I really had a hard time choosing the parts and colors for today’s look.

Usually a nun seems something well behaved and shiny, so I wanted to drag it over to something dark, since I am on a dark and scary mood at the moment*giggles*

I love how the habit moves with the poses and animations and with all the options you really can create looks from totally nice and proper to something uber sexy if you only use the harness for the body…

For the set, what else I could use as the “Abandoned Asylum” gacha from 22769. I do LOVE their creativity and love for the detail in all of their items. The gacha comes with so many different furniture and deco parts.. you can just decorate away with all of them and since they are usually modifiable, you can even reuse them in different sizes! The amazing spooky mannequins as well are a gacha but from Remarkable Oblivion. That was the most funniest gacha play I ever had. When I saw those mannequins on the Ironwood Hills sim, I instantly knew – I want them! So I went to the event where they were and was doing a happy dance when I saw they are all common items. Usually I am not a lucky person with gachas, that is one of the reasons I stopped playing most of the time. So I started to gamble aways after setting myself a limit and the first 3 pulls already all were 3 rares and I was like “What the hell??? Once I seriously want the commons – really???” No that I did not like the rares, they are amazing, but… seriously?!? – Just on a side note, I never ever was that lucky at any other gacha*laughs*

Thank god I found the missing mannequins for a reasonable price on marketplace, to complete my Spook Show :p

I do not wanna forget to mention, that all the amazing poses I used are from Poseidon.

I still have so many poses and props he made, that I would love to showcase, but that crazy genius guy seems to be on a release flood! Just kidding but it is really hard to follow up with the speed of his releases.. I sometimes really wonder if he ever sleeps*grins* But for this post they were just perfect again. Using his poses seems to me like getting a picture alive. They are so very well thought trough from the fingernails down to the toenails every limb does exactly what it has to, to create the perfect illusion of a movement in just one pose!

It was really great fun to do those pictures and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do 🙂

I love working for magazines and not too long ago the newest issue of SL Fierce was released.

SL Fierce is something special to me, as they (aka mainly Steele Sirnah, as SL Fierce is kinda his baby 😉 ) always come up with amazing themes and as well with challenging styling requests, but you always have to use your own inventory and have kinda free reign of what you are doing without any given items or rules.

Certainly it is fun too if you get things from amazing designers, but it is a totally different workflow for me then. When you get a design, then you try to highlight it in your look. You want to promote the designer that gave you the item and with the focus on that you built a style around that. I would not choose one over the other as I like both and each is a totally different challenge than the other 😉

This time SL Fierce was going for ‘Dark & Light Feathers’ as well as for ‘Dark Beauty’. When I was told, who I may shoot with, I totally was looking forward to the shoots, as I always feel an invisible band between me and her and she seems to think so much alike and always feels and gets my weirdness :p

I am talking about WrenNoir Cerise, one of the most creative and skilled artists I met in SL, when it comes to 2D art and as well a wonderful and kind lady.

Working with Wren always means huge fun and as well amazing pictures 🙂 She loves to experiment and while she does her set ups or looks for the right poses she is even getting more into her creative universe.

The first look of the 3 I started with, was the Light Feathers, since I thought that might take me the longest to style since white is not my total comport zone 😉

First I thought about an angel, but what ever I tried it looked weird to me and so I decided to try something different. Something more fantasy and satyr or faun looking. I always loved the “Wisdom Angel Wings” from Astralia so much and now I got the chance to try something with them 🙂 The rest kinda fell in place very smooth 😉

For the Dark Beauty, I wanted a strong, dark diva look :p And with the outfit from Pixicat combined with the stole of *agp* it was easy to achieve that.

The Dark Feathers, that was the one I felt most comfortable with… that was my personal playground*giggles* I love to mis and match so I used a lot of different feather attachments for this look.

It is amazing to see how so many different outfit parts that do not really belong to ech other on the first view, can become a new outfit.

Thank you SL Fierce, especially Steele & thank you Wren for another amazing challenge and time working on those looks and having the photo shoots!

How often we see cool poses and we never get to use them becasue they are extraordinary, editorial and so super awesome expressive that they seem to never fit an outfit.

Especially crouch poses or some kind of unusual movements can be hard if you have a certain outfit, that just doesnot want to cooperate with the poses you would love to use.. I am sure you know what I am talking about :p

So this time, I wanted tight pants, which would not clash with any kind of poses and some cool casual look that would agree with any kind of poses, that I always wanted to use before and rarely had a chance to do so.

My choice fell on one of the amazing applier leggings from Lassidude & Ennui. Her appliers really have an incredible quality and so many details that you barely can see they are ‘just’ appliers and not actual mesh pants. Appliers have the great advantage that nothing clashes or bends weird when your legs move. Another great thing about appliers is, you can mix and match a little bot more by using them together with mesh pieces, as you do not have to take care of several mesh sizes or mesh poking through each other by layering it over each other. The top comes from Moon Elixir with a full amazing outfit called “Rebel”

All the poses of today’s post are coming from Poseidon. An extraordinary pose store I discovered not too long ago. Gryphon Vendetta, owner and creator of Poseidon Poses, never stops to amaze me with his new releases.

The poses are super energetic and natural looking and most of them show incredible movements, like a momentary capture of some animation. You will find poses for any occasion or purpose at Poseidon, no matter if you look for runnings, jumps, dances or even themed poses like the super cool “Hill Nurse” set, that inspired me not too long ago to some creepy pics 😉 (https://wiccamerlin.de/something-evils-lurkinin-the-dark/)

He did some super cool props and as well little sets filled with his amazing poses. To me they are really refreshing and inspire me a lot just by running through them. If you are a friend of different angles, those poses are super awesome for editorial shots as well as he takes care of every limb to be perfect. And even if they look so dramatic you always get a real looking feeling and nothing breaks or looks like broken bones :p

When I saw the “She’s a Maniac” gacha set from Salt & Pepper, I immediately had the pictures of one of my favourite 80s movie in mind… Flashdance!

For those who are my age.. I am sure you remember that little beauty training her ass off, sweating like she would have stood in the rain to get hired by that ballet company :p

Yes, I admit, I had to watch the movie right there again while styling the new gacha set of Salt & Pepper and I highly enjoyed it – even if I saw it like a hundred times before – Thank you Salt!

I wanted to make my own interpretation of that main character of the movie, or how I would have seen the look in my very own vision. Since I am an 80s addicted, I had to have it in black and white with some hints of red on the lips and the fingernails, the hat as well was a must 😉

First I experimented with a ballet room with lots of mirrors and what not, but then I felt that something more simple would do a better job, to have the focus on the actual look and as well the fantastic poses from Poseidon.

So I just set up a white studio with a ballet barre from Cinphul and the “BoomBox” by [Since 1975]. I rarely saw such amazing energetic poses, than the ones of Poseidon. And when I saw he had  ballet and dances moves…

Again I experienced that not only great clothing, a cool set and some good photography make a picture.. no… poses do their huge part to it as well. It is always a combination of everything in my opinion.

And it is a lot more fun to work with energetic poses… if it fits the theme than with just static photo poses. Sometimes energetic, movement poses might not work on the first view, but if you change the angle, you can have super cool pictures, or if you just use a crop 😉

To give the whole look some more personal twist, I added the “Grim” eyepatch from [sys]. I love fancy headpieces and face deco and this little piece of art is just another master piece of [sys]. All those leather bands, chains and little decorations make this eyepatch to so much more than “just” an eyepatch 😉

The “Charming” collar from Happy Undead just matched so nicely in colors, style and as well in the positioning – it nearly looked as it was made for the “She’s a maniac” gacha set!

Maybe you now have the same desire as I had to watch ‘Flashdance’ again and I would like at least to link the video of that song 😉

Phoenix – A Modern, Steampunk Interpretation

Sometimes the mind takes off and you just go with the flow…

That happened again after I got the amazing “Lavi” makeup from Slackgirl. I wanted to do something special as the makeup itself looked very different to me.

First I tried something simple, as I wanted the makeup to pop out, but what ever I tried, it never did satisfaction to the makeup to my feeling.

That usually is the point when I put things to the side and wait until the creative muse kisses me with the right idea. But for what ever reason I could not do it this time without again and again thinking about it.

With the amazing shine of the makeup, I came across the idea to use the wonderful “Asgard Wings” from E.V.E Studio, that come with the matching head wing parts. So I slowly got a basic idea for what would like to go for. Wearing the cool head wing parts I had to find some hair, that go well with them without hiding too much or looking too funky. The ” Tommy” hair is the perfect choice to match my vision, which grows more and more in my mind 😉

With the beautiful detailed top from the “Scarlett” lingerie – made by Salt & Pepper – I had the arms free for the awesome “Elowen” arm pieces from Wicca’s Wardrobe. The shorts with the cool garter straps come from Asteria and are named “Mady”.

With the cool “Lavi” makeup and the “Asgard” accessories the vision of an steampunk Phoenix was born in my head… I can’t tell you why but it just got tsuck in my mind :p

For the set, which I built at my studio I used the incredible “Propelling Gears” together with the “Rosina’s Undergeound” and the “Eye of the Storm” made the perfect ambience for what I was looking for 🙂

Now.. simple runway poses would not do justice to the Phoenix idea. I was trying quite a few but nothing really would work with my idea and finally Gryphon Vendetta, creator of Poseidon poses saved my life. I ran into Poseidon via Gryphons amazing flickr stream and his incredible pictures. I totally love them and drooled more than once over his pictures 😉

He does very dramatic and expressive poses which are perfect for exciting pictures and moods. I rarely saw such motion looking poses, which still look human and not distorted for the limbs. It looks like that he has poses for every occasion you can think about whether it is weapons, running scenes or flying moments. Sometimes he even has props coming with them like the one I used for the dark bloody nurse post not too long ago (https://wiccamerlin.de/something-evils-lurkinin-the-dark/).

I really got kinda an addiction for Poseidon poses since I tried them first and with all those possibilities he offers, I guess that will not be the last post I used them :p (I spied a Harley Quinn set too and I LOVE Harley Quinn*grins evil*)
